The Beaches and Headlands

North Stradbroke Island has a range of beaches that are suitable all year round for safe swimming, spectacular surfing and great fishing. The headlands are the perfect place for spotting whales and dolphins, watching the surfers ride the waves or simply relaxing.

Main Beach is patrolled all year round and Cylinder Beach is patrolled right through the school holidays by the qualified surf lifesavers. Cylinder Beach is also patrolled every weekend from September to April by the Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club.

The Gorge
Main Beach is 22 kilometres of unspoilt sand, dunes and surf. Main beach is always popular with board-riders and bodysurfers who enjoy big swells. The headland is the best vantage point for watching the surfing, the humpback whales and dolphins.

Cylinder Beach is popular with families because of its usually calm gentle waves and tidal beach lagoons. Deadmans and Frenchmans beaches are secluded spots nestled between North Gorge and Cylinder. Both these beaches are great spots to explore rock-pools where small fish, anemones, shells and crabs are plentiful.
